L.P: East Meadow, New York; I am a Certified Teacher and I have a Neurological medical condition, rendering me unable to fully walk, and therefore bound to a wheelchair. My illness is called Neurofibromatosis type I and it is a mid-brain tumor that I was born with. When puberty came, the abnormality grew and the MRI’s began, Chemotherapy/Radiation Therapy treatments, extreme weight and hair loss, physical/occupational/vocational rehab therapies, losing balance, falling down, extreme sensitivity to EVERYTHING, emotional downfalls, literal downfalls (ouch!), and the intense family drama--this is just to name a few. Just please go over that list in your head. Struggling with all of that and still attending high school? The land where fashion, looks, hair, cliques, boys/girls, parties, and “fitting in” are all that matter. And I even persevered to attain my Master’s Degree at Adelphi University. Please just think about your life. Your concerns and worries. Your struggles. How hindering are those things really? You can overcome those things. So I’ll leave you with this inspirational insight: Live your life to the fullest. That “lame” command that adults “always preach”…it’s real---coming from this side.
